Bampslaan - Detail
Students, starters, small and large families: B-Hive offers a wide range of residential typologies under one roof. Shared spaces, green roofs and a mobility point with an atelier make it a home that invites everyday encounters.
The Bampslaan project in Hasselt is a mixed-use development with homes, commercial space, student rooms and hospitality. Fairly late in the process, the team at a2o-detail was asked to fit out the prominent corner tower as offices, even though it had been designed as a residential building. The idea was to leave the appearance of the tower intact and to treat the office as an infill rather than a transformation. Walls and installations are conceived more as furniture: they are placed now, but can be removed later. This concept also became an aesthetic theme in the design itself.
The result is an interior that looks highly flexible. Meeting rooms resemble life-size built-in cupboards, and pieces of furniture act as dividers between different areas of use. Plenty of wood and domestic materials and colours give the offices a homely atmosphere, a workplace where you immediately feel at home. And because nothing is permanent, the building can become a residential tower again in the future.
The terraces have also been kept intact. This not only makes a future conversion possible, it also adds value for the offices today. Workspaces are linked to the outdoor areas, which serve for relaxation but, thanks to good wifi and outdoor furniture, also for meetings and working in the open air.
