Bouwcampus - Detail
Loose, removable and ready for a next life: the Bouwcampus interior leaves no waste behind. Reclaimed materials, rammed earth and exposed timber make circular design something you can see, touch and enjoy.
The interior of the Bouwcampus is circular thinking, made tangible. Everything is designed to be adapted, moved or taken out again: the fit-out is loose and removable, so spaces can change with the needs of their users without leaving waste behind. Materials are chosen with their next life in mind, so that what is used here can be reused in other projects later.
The building services follow the same logic. Rather than hiding them, the design keeps them in view, where they are easy to maintain, adjust and replace. Yet they are far from an afterthought. Installations sit neatly in recesses and grooves cut into the timber structure, so that technology and aesthetics go hand in hand. The result is robust and sturdy, honest about how the building works, and beautiful in its detail.
The material palette is where the Bouwcampus becomes a cultural experiment as much as a technical one. Reused materials saved from demolition sit alongside circular and bio-ecological ones, such as rammed earth and other materials drawn from nature. These unusual materials give the interior an unusual character, with warm colours and rich textures that invite you to touch. The message is clear: a sustainable interior can be every bit as beautiful as a conventional one, and often more so.
