Bouwcampus - Field

The project is carefully anchored in its surroundings. It is not added to the landscape, but emerges from it. Existing woodlands are extended, and ecological connections are restored. Within these connections, a deliberately water-positive approach is chosen.

The landscape design for the Bouwcampus starts from a simple ambition: to be as innovative as the building it surrounds. It is meant to be a leading example of sustainable design, created for people and nature alike. The design began with research into local plant and animal species, so that every choice supports the ecosystems that belong here. By restoring habitats and creating ecological connections, the site becomes a link in a wider green network.

For the people who work here, the landscape is an extension of the office. It offers places to relax, to hold meetings in the open air and to host outdoor events. Water plays a leading role. Rainwater is collected, reused and allowed to infiltrate on site, and it is deliberately kept visible. By making water and ecosystems something you can see and experience, the design stimulates awareness of how the natural cycle works.

The landscape also ties the campus together. Clear wayfinding connects all the buildings, and new links make moving between them easy and pleasant. The whole site is car-free and supported by excellent cycling infrastructure, so that walking and cycling are the natural way to get around. The result is a campus that works for its users and for the wildlife that shares it.
