House HH - Arch

House Hh shows how building a new home can go hand in hand with restoring the landscape around it. On a plot at the edge of the woods in a quiet neighbourhood, a dilapidated bungalow and an overgrown garden had cut the site off from its surroundings. The design started from one clear ambition: to give the garden back to the landscape.

The old constructions and fences were removed and the plot was redesigned. New trees and forest vegetation now surround the house, which nestles into this restored setting. The house is made up of two funnel-shaped volumes, each turned towards the landscape on its own and joined by a transparent link. The building reads as a solid ensemble, with large cut-outs that frame selected views. The living spaces face mainly towards the rear, where the plot merges into the forest. Between the two volumes, an inner courtyard mediates between the sheltered interior and the open landscape beyond.

Earthy, warm materials strengthen this dialogue between building and landscape. The façades and the walkway are clad in authentic fieldstone, and green roofs planted with herbaceous plants let the house blend into its wooded surroundings. The result is a home that offers wide views over the landscape while giving its residents a strong sense of shelter and security.
